When maize cultivation started in Nigeria, it was first cultivated as a subsistence crop, in small quantities for family survival only. As time went on maize farming changed its face and operations from subsistence farming to commercial farming. Today maize is planted in larger(commercial) quantities because of its profitability, economic value and the demand for the crop in the market.
